Bluehost Refund Policy

December 15th, 2008 @ 10:30 am Tagged with , , , ,   Comments: 0

Most web hosting companies do have money back guarantee as one of their marketing tool. They encourage potential customers to try out their hosting service and if there are any unsatisfactory, file an account cancellation and you will get back your money. However every company has different refund policy that you need to understand otherwise you will fail to get your refund if it happens to against their policy.

Here is the refund policy of Bluehost web hosting:-

Bluehost Web Hosting

Bluehost web hosting has a 30 days money back guarantee. After you have subscribed to the web hosting and by any mean you are not satisfied with the service, you can cancel the hosting account and get refund. It is worth noting that the 30 days is calendar days but not working days.

Their refund policy works this way:-

  1. Bluehost only refund the hosting fee. Any money spent to purchase domain name and SSL certificates will not be available for refund.
  2. In the case where your subscription is within 30 days, you get full refund. Bluehost will refund all the money that you have spent for web hosting registration.
  3. While in the case where your subscription passes 30 calendar days, it will be sorry that there will not be a full refund. However Bluehost will give you a pro-rated refund. Pro-rated is calculated based on monthly. For example if you have paid 12 months subscription fee and you decided to quit Bluehost after spending 2 months and 29 days, you will get a 10 months refund.
  4. For your information, Bluehost web hosting does come with one free domain name. The free domain name is associated with the web hosting. So when you decide to cancel the account, the free domain name ownership will be an issue. According to Term of Service of Bluehost hosting, it could be fully retained with a payment of $10 per domain.
  5. All cancellation and refund requests shall be directed filed via email sent to billing@bluehost.com.

I guess the elaboration above is clear enough for you to justify the Bluehost refund. Do contact Bluehost and their Live Chat for a quick session if you have anything unsure. To me I think their refund policy is fair. They charge on what you use and they refund the maximum rate.

Do You Really Need Web Hosting For Your Blog?

December 11th, 2008 @ 11:18 am Tagged with , , ,   Comments: 0

There have been arguments going on for this question. This is because the answer is very subjective where everyone can have different answer even with the same situation. I am here to tell you how you should justify this question but not asking you to get yourself a web hosting. It is because web hosting is really depends on personal need.

Being the most common and effective way in conveying messages to the world of audience, blogs are everywhere. Most of the blogs are hosted free with blogging software like WordPress and Blogger. A typical web hosting company will tell you free hosting at blogging platform is not as good as the personal web hosting thus selling you the service. But I would say it depends. It depends on what you are doing with your blog.

Web Hosting

Blogging software like WordPress has been growing and upgrading rapidly that their service is getting better and better. They have even upgraded their storage up to 3G. For a common blogger 3GB of storage is more than enough. However, if you are beyond a common blogger who wish to have a more professional look and control on your blog, perhaps personal web hosting is your resort.

To have a blog of your own, basically you need 2 things, a domain name and a web hosting. Free blogging software gives out subdomain and a certain storage space you can use. This is perfectly fine for those who do hobby writings and sharing. However if you are a small business owner who plan to write blogs to promote your products, that sounds not proper at all. There are a few reasons for these.

Firstly branding. If you host free to promote your product, it definitely causes unprofessional look at your business. This is because there are a few prejudgments that people make online. One you are not serious on your internet business else you will do some investment; Two your business is small where you do not have enough fund to expand it online. In another hand, a hobby writer works absolutely fine with free hosting because they are just doing life sharing where they themselves are the real branding of the blog.

Secondly flexibility. Since it is free web hosting, you cannot expect any bombastic hosting features and free scripting from blogging platform. What blogging platform serves you is only the basic thing for you to write online. If you need other fancy application, you either search for plugins or you yourself build a plugin. Flexibility does not limit only to scripting but also the ability to perform testing and host email and etc. As tweaking for example, you will not be able to do this kind of testing on your blogs. Also you will not be able to have your own domain email with free hosting blogging.

Thirdly reliability. I have no idea on the uptime of free blogging platform but I believe WordPress is trying their best in ensuring the uptime of the hosting. But no way they will guarantee a 99% of uptime right? So back to what you do on the blog, does the uptime matter to you? If it is not, then you have another reason to support the free service.

Fourthly storage and bandwidth. Although up to 3GB of storage is provided by WordPress, space does run out. So if you write so much and would like to keep all your archives, you better look for an alternatives because you do not want your blog being suspended due to the over usage of resources.

I guess with these 4 clear reasoning, you could decide whether you need a web hosting for your blog. If the 4 things do matter to your blog or whatever you are doing online, then I guess you need web hosting and the question will be what kind of web hosting is suitable for you. However if you do not give a dim to the above 4 things then free blogging platform is perfect for you.

So tell me, do you need a web hosting now?
